David H. Dees, Jr., 66, of North Little Rock, AR passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017. He was born December 25, 1950 in Little Rock, AR to the late David H. Dees, Sr., and Helen Kvaternik Dees. His family owned and operated the Ritz Restaurant for over 45 years. After graduating from McGehee High School in 1969, he became active in the Shriners Club while in McGehee. He worked for the Cable Co. and then managed Staple Cotton before leaving McGehee. He started working for Simon & Simon Corp. in the Mall business. He managed Malls in Memphis, TN and Lafayette, LA and returned to Little Rock, AR to manage the University Mall and McCain Mall. He left Simon & Simon Corp. and moved to San Jose, CA for several years before returning to North Little Rock, AR and bought the Best Shot Liquor Store. He later sold the liquor store and retired.
David had many talents and could fix just about anything needed inside and outside of your home. He enjoyed being called upon by his many friends whenever they needed him. He also enjoyed making furniture in his spare time and was very gracious in giving pieces he made to family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Pat Sherland (Raymond) Day of McGehee, AR; nieces, Marcy (Bryan) Smith of Newport, AR and Sarah Jane (Mitchell) Thiele of Fort Smith, AR; nephew, Mike (Jackie) Sherland of Ridgewood, NJ; their children, Garrett Smith and Madelyn Smith, Mark Mitchell Thiele, Andrew Sherland, and Liam Sherland.
A rosary service will be held from 1:30pm to 2:00pm Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR followed by a visitation from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at 3:00pm at McGehee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Creutzfeldt-Jakob (Prion) Disease Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 5312, Akron, OH 44334.
