John “Johnny” Thompson Tipps, 70, of Dermott, Arkansas passed away January 24, 2016 in Little Rock, AR. He was born on July 18, 1945 in Dermott, Arkansas to the late Jessie Clinton and Opal Sue Akins Tipps. Johnny was a 1963 graduate of Dermott High School and a graduate of University of Arkansas at Monticello. He served in the United States Navy. Johnny worked in the LP Gas business for 40 years. He loved to garden and his specialty was growing tomatoes. Johnny also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. He volunteered with Delta Baptist Association and Disaster Relief Team. Johnny was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He loved to sing in the choir and he is now singing in the Heavenly choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Geneva Herring Tipps of Dermott, AR; brothers, Clinton L. Tipps and his wife, Pearlene of Lake Village, AR and Larry Tipps and his wife, Gay of Portland, AR; sister, Nan Price of Camden, AR; numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at 1-2pm, Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Temple Baptist Church in Dermott, AR. Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Temple Baptist Church in Dermott, AR with Rev. Bobby Franklin and Rev. Jody Gannaway officiating. Burial will be at Dermott Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church Bus Fund, P.O. Box 327, Dermott, AR 71638.
