Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Hoffman

Mary Elizabeth Hoffman, 98, of Dermott, AR passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017. She was born in Dermott, AR a daughter of the late Henry Elbert and Eunice Durham Simpson. She graduated from Dermott High School and attended Arkansas A & M now the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Later she attended a business college in Monroe, La. She received a voice scholarship at Juilliard’s in New York City but she didn’t accept. She loved to sing and was a soloist in church starting when she was seventeen years old. She volunteered as a Gray Lady at many hospitals. She loved her family and friends and loved to travel extensively in the USA and Europe. She lived in France and Germany for about five years.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Foye Lowe, Sr. and Fred L. Hoffman; sisters, Velma Ball, Helen Turner and Louise Simpson; brother, Henry Elbert “Bud” Simpson, Jr.
Survivors include her sons, Foye Lowe, Jr. and his wife Gloria Bockrath of Baton Rouge, LA and Charles Lowe and his wife Linda of Oden, AR. Five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10-11 am Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Dermott Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am at the church with Rev. Jerry Starnes and Rev. John Compton officiating. Burial will follow at Dermott Cemetery.
