Obituary for Dr. Robert Lester Prosser III

Dr. Robert L. Prosser III, 73, of McGehee, AR passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at McGehee hospital. Dr. Prosser was born January 11, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Robert L. Prosser II and Bernice Prosser. At age 5 the family moved to Dallas, Texas where he began his education. His family moved to Pocahontas, Ar. when he was in the 3rd grade where he attended St. Paul Catholic School through his junior year. In the summer of 1962 he moved to McGehee, Ar. to live with his grandparents and attend McGehee High School. He graduated in 1963.
During his senior year he met his future wife, Mary Claudette Roberts, where they became high school sweethearts. They were married December 21, 1963 and lived happily together until her death in April 2012. Together they had 5 children, Paige, Robert, Paul, Joseph, and Michael, all of which graduated from McGehee High School. In addition, they have 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
In the fall of 1963, he enrolled at Arkansas A&M College. He attended college there for three years before being accepted into Medical School at UAMS. He graduated with honors from UAMS in 1970 and moved his family to Fort Worth, Texas to begin his residency at J. Peter Smith Hospital.
In 1972 he moved his family back to McGehee, Ar. to begin his career in family practice. He worked with Dr. Moss at his clinic for several years. In 1975 he opened McGehee Family Clinic with Dr. James Young as a partner, and together built a successful business.
Dr. Prosser has been a life-long servant to others. He served his nation as a member of the Arkansas National Guard from 1970 – 1990. During this time he achieved the rank of Full Bird Colonel. He also served his local community in several positions including Deputy Coroner for Desha County, School Board member for McGehee School District, and Chief of Staff for McGehee Hospital. He is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Dr. Prosser was recognized with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the McGehee Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet in February.
As important as all of these roles have been, his greatest service has been to his patients. He worked tirelessly to provide the best possible health care to all of the citizens of this community and has built relationships that will last a lifetime.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Claudette Roberts Prosser; sons, Robert D. Prosser and Joseph H. Prosser; sisters, Betty Smith and Pat Prosser.Survivors include sons, Paul Prosser and his wife Stacy and Michael Patton Prosser all of McGehee; daughter, Paige Cashion and her husband Mark of McGehee; sister, Ginger Brooks of Pocahontas, AR; grandchildren, Megan, Lauren, Peyton, Mary Catherine, Madeline and Madyson; great-grandson, Elliott.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday, October 21, 2018 followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 22, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in McGehee. Burial will follow at McGehee Cemetery.
