Obituary for Alfred Dean Baker

Alfred Dean Baker of Tillar, AR left this earthly tabernacle at 4:30 pm, Thursday afternoon to enter paradise. He lived on this earth for 83 years and 10 months. He was born to Robert Ashley and Jenny Cornelia Baker on January 4, 1935 in Havana, AR. He graduated from Tillar High School in 1955. He married Patricia Jean Bush in 1956 on March 24th. They lived in Rohwer, AR for about six months then moved to Tillar, AR where they still reside.

Alfred was baptized into Christ for the remission of his sins in 1953, though an imperfect man he strived to live a Christian life. He was a deacon for a few years in the MeGehee Church of Christ, then served as an Elder there for approximately forty years until his death. He was a Bible teacher and song leader as well. He was a City Alderman for Tillar, AR for many years and he served on the Board of Directors for the McGehee Producers Gin and served nine years in the U. S. Army National Guard in McGehee, AR. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a third generation farmer. Although an imperfect man, his top priority was God, Christ, the Church and his family. Alfred was dearly loved by his family and friends and he will be greatly missed.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Leon and Raymond Baker; sisters Verdell MacDonald and Verneal Allison. Survivors include his wife of 62 years Patricia Jean Baker; son Michael Shawn Baker and his wife Carolyn Rochelle Brust Baker of Tillar, AR; daughter, Dawn Rachelle Baker Peacock and her husband Paul Peacock, Jr. of Winchester, AR. Alfred was the proud grandfather (Papaw) of Fallon Jade Peacock Jones (Sean) of Bryant, AR, Sandlin Dawn Peacock Rhoads (Brandon) of Monticello, AR, Audra Schell Baker Crawford (Josh) of Searcy, AR, Ryan Taylor Baker of North Little Rock, AR and Michael Andrew Baker of Rogers, AR; great-grandchildren, Alden, Adilyn and Amryn Jones, Bryleigh and Lincoln Crawford; brother, Lyndall Baker of Monticello, AR; sister, Evelyn LaVern Chance of Enola, AR and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held at 1-2pm on Monday, November19, 2018 at McGehee Church of Christ in McGehee, AR. Funeral services will follow at 2pm at the church with Randy Allison and Rickey Eppes officiating. Burial will be at Tillar Cemetery in Tillar, AR.
