Zula Verle (Methvin) LaFarra, 91, of McGehee, Arkansas, retired Registered Nurse and homemaker, died Saturday, June 8th. She was the widow of William E. (Bill) LaFarra. She was born June 18, 1927 to Luther and Flora (McCain) Methvin at Drew, Sunflower County, Mississippi.

She was a graduate of Ruleville High School, Ruleville, MS and Leflore Hospital, School of Nursing, Greenwood, MS. She served as the Director of Nursing for Leisure Lodge Nursing Home for 22 years, retiring in 1989. Her hobbies included genealogy research, sewing, quilting, flower gardening, and traveling across the USA while camping with her family. She enjoyed being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution local chapter in Monticello.
Verle was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, McGehee, where she served in Sunday School, Training Union, Girls Auxiliary, Vacation Bible School, and Bible Drill.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Reginald and Myron Methvin. Survivors include three daughters; Janice (Ken) Ramsey of Arkadelphia; Dolores (Keith) Brown of Warren; and Nancy (Les) Abernathy of McGehee; six grandchildren – Amanda (J.D.) Martin of Estero, Florida; Jonathan (Morgan) Wilson of Jonesboro; Matt (Jessica) Ramsey of Maumelle; Perry (Lindsey) Jones of Monticello; Adrienne (Larry Don) Miles of McGehee, and Sarah (Blaine) Starr of Warren; along with 5 step grandchildren (Brett Abernathy, Natalie Goble, Kari Epperson, Chet and Alex Brown), and 24 great grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Anita Nokes of Greenwood, MS and a brother, Glenn Methvin of Owens Crossroads, Alabama, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 1-2pm Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at First Baptist Church of McGehee in McGehee, AR. Funeral services will follow at 2pm at the church with Rev. Rick Miller officiating. Burial will be held at McGehee Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of McGehee – Scholarship Fund for Youth Camp, P.O. Box 133, McGehee, AR 71654. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
