Joe Ann Steinheil Burnett, age 77, of Watson, AR passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019 in Dermott, Arkansas. Joe Ann was born on January 5, 1942 in Aplin, Arkansas to the late Edward Richard and Mary Julia Harkins Steinheil. She moved to Desha County when she was a little girl with her parents. She played basketball at Desha Central, where she graduated in 1959. Playing basketball is how she met Olen Burnett. Joe Ann and Olen married November 15, 1959. She was a housewife, a mother and a Baptist. She worked a few years at the glove factory at Dermott. In June 1980, she graduated nursing school as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) from Great Rivers Vo-Tech in McGehee. Her career as a nurse began at McGehee-Desha County Hospital, where she worked for 19 years. She continued her career as an infirmary Nurse at Arkansas Department of Corrections. She worked at Dermott Regional and Varner Units. She retired in 2014. Joe Ann had a strong love for being a nurse, to help people and worked hard to always do her best.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 44 years, Jesse Olen Burnett. She is survived by 2 children: a son, William Burnett (Little Joe) and a daughter, Mary Burnett Linely, both of Rohwer, AR; 4 grandchildren: Chathan Burnett (Kelli) of Broken Arrow, OK; Jessica Ann-Marie Linely of Dumas, AR; Jonathan Hunter Linely and Macy Katherine-Elizabeth Chaney, both of Rohwer, AR; a brother, Richard Steinheil (Linda) of Muskogee, OK; a great grandson, Tayten Malloy of Broken Arrow, OK; 6 nieces; 6 nephews and many more family members and friends.

This was truly one of the most precious people I ever had the honor of knowing.. As I learned how to be a manager at Varner she was a truly amazing asset. Her work ethic could give a lesson to anyone.

She will always be in my heart and in my memories.

I remember the moment she let me know that she did I not think I was unworthy of being her supervisor. She came to me and said, “ you know, some people tell me that I am getting to old to be working here. I have decided that until you tell me I need to go home I’m staying.. I know you won’t tell me until it is true.” I told her that I would, and I always regretted that circumstances did not allow me to be able to do so. I asked her why she would choose me to make such an important decision. She said because she knew I did my best to be fair.

In knowing her, we can all see that this was her way of telling me that she was pleased with me.. and we all probably also know that even if she would have listened to me.. I would have gotten quite an earful if that day had ever come!

May God comfort those who love her!

Joann was always happy. I think she got that from Uncle Ed. Inever saw her that she wasn't smiling. Prayers for all of the family.
