Virginia Ann Hogue Wood, age 84, passed away on February 13, 2020. Ann was born to Robert Guy Hogue and Maggie Sikes Hogue in Florence, Arkansas, on October 9, 1935. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Earl Wood, Sr. Along with her parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Russell Hogue, Robert Gene Hogue, Charles Wayne Hogue, and Lawrence Hogue, and by her sisters, Ruby Hogue Spradlin and Mildred Hogue Foster. She is survived by one brother, Roy Hogue and his wife, Ursula, of McGehee, Arkansas, one brother-in-law, John W Foster, of McGehee, Arkansas, and one sister-in-law, Jann Hogue, of Leland, Mississippi. She is also survived by two sons and three daughters, Earl Wood, Jr and wife, Pat Wood, of Dumas, Arkansas, Polly Wood Haynes and husband, Larry Haynes, of Andover, Kansas, Leigh Wood of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Becky Wood McCallie, and husband, Wayne McCallie, of Arkansas City, Arkansas, Bill Wood, and wife, Kim Wood, of Washington, Indiana. She is survived by twelve grandchildren, Bryan Wood and Matt Wood of Dumas, Arkansas, Joe Haynes and wife, Kristin, of Olathe, Kansas, Paul Haynes and wife, Ali, of Lenexa, Kansas, Mark Haynes and wife, Yvette, of Andover, Kansas, Drew Edwards of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Katie Edwards of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Jason McCallie, and wife, Kirby, of Arkansas City, Arkansas, Blake McCallie of Russellville, Arkansas, Whitney Wood of Corydon, Indiana, Erin Wood Shrock, and husband, Earl Shrock, of Lagrange, Indiana, and Justin Wood of Washington, Indiana. She had ten great grandchildren, Will Haynes, Wyatt Haynes, Kevin Haynes, Henry Haynes, Tannie Haynes, Levi McCallie, Harper Wood, Bella Shrock, Finnigan Shrock, and Sullivan Shrock. Ann is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Virginia Ann Hogue Wood was a 1953 graduate of McGehee High School and she had many fond memories of school friends and playing on the McGehee Owls Girls basketball team. She loved the town of McGehee and the community of Chickasaw where she lived most of the years of her life surrounded by family and dear friends. Ann stayed busy mothering her five children and being involved with their many activities. Ann and Earl were proud of each and every one of their grandchildren. She loved to read aloud to her grandchildren when they were young and was excited about the addition of each great grandchild to the family. Ann was retired from the Arkansas Department of Health. Ann and her husband, Earl, loved to take road trips during their retirement years. They also took great pleasure in watching the crops grow in the fields surrounding their home of which Ann’s favorite was cotton. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking, reading, solving puzzles, bird watching and spending time with family and friends.
Ann was a charter member of Chickasaw Baptist Church. She married her husband in the church on July 4, 1954, and was an active and faithful member until her health failed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Chickasaw Baptist Church, PO Box 973, McGehee, Arkansas 71654.
Visitation is Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm at Griffin Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Chickasaw Baptist Church. Interment will be at Dermott Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Dalton’s Place of Star City where she was lovingly cared for in the final years of her life. Much appreciation goes to Gena, Mellie, staff and residents for loving our mother during her years there. We are also grateful for Hospice Angels of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, for providing hospice care.
