Obituary for Dorothy Louise Barrett Seamans
Dorothy Louise Barrett Seamans, 99, of McGehee, AR died early Monday morning, July 27, 2020 in Dermott, AR. She was born on December 4, 1920 in Selma, AR to John Robert and Marie Lucile Brown Barrett. She was married to Billie Seamans for 74 years, until his death in 2018.
Dorothy owned and operated a beauty shop in McGehee for 30 years, then worked with Billie in their photography studio until their late 80’s. She was a member of First Baptist Church in McGehee for 76 years, having taught in Sunday school for over 40 years, worked in training union, and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother. She is survived by her children, Jerry Lee (Gail) Seamans of Lake Village, Harry Don (Maria) Seamans of McGehee, and Billie Glen (Jane) Seamans of Laurinburg, North Carolina. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two infant children, Glen Barrett and Robert Samuel, and her siblings, Mary Idell Barrett Wilson, Helen Lucile Barrett Wood, and John Robert Barrett, Jr.
Funeral services will be graveside at 10am on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at the McGehee Cemetery with Pastor David Brown officiating. Pall-bearers will be Terry Seamans, Kevin Seamans, Dan Calaway, Alan Spears, Trey Raymer, Dalton Crain, Lee Crain, and Josh Seamans.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of McGehee at P.O. Box 133, McGehee, AR 71654. The family thanks the Dermott Nursing Home for their loving care.
