Elizabeth Jewell “Beth” Roberts, 82 of McGehee, Arkansas passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, September 5, 2020.
Beth was born in Lake Village, Arkansas on October 10, 1937 to the late Walter Matthews and Jewell Hill Matthews. Beth retired from the University of Arkansas at Monticello's Department of Agriculture in 2009. She was an Administrative Specialist with the Southeast Research and Extension Center. She loved the staff and her co-workers and especially her “ag kids” as she affectionately called her agriculture students. Beth also worked for Helena Chemical in McGehee, Arkansas for a number of years. Her greatest accomplishment was fervently serving the Lord as a prayer warrior, pianist and vocalist. She loved to play and sing and always brought joy to any occasion. She could often be found on Sundays playing the piano at Wesley Methodist Church early service before returning to play for regular service at First Baptist Church. Beth especially loved singing with her daughters. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Beth was a member of Arkansas City Baptist Church where she played and sang until her health no longer allowed.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry Lynn Matthews and Renny Matthews; grandson, Cory Dane Selby; special nephews, Trey Kolb and Matthew Kolb.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, William R. “Bill” Roberts of McGehee, Arkansas, son, Scott (Leigh Ann) Roberts of Monticello, Arkansas; daughters JoBeth (Ted) Selby of Portland, Arkansas and Libby Dodson of Wilmar, Arkansas; sister, Kathy Kolb of Lake Village, Arkansas; grandchildren, Billy Roberts, Roxanne Dodson Hoover, Michael Dodson, Erin Selby Jones, Bailey Dodson Golden, Will Dodson and 7 great-grandchildren.
