Obituary for James "Early" Payne

James “Early” Payne, 75, of Halley, Arkansas passed away Monday, November 30, 2020 at Chicot Memorial Medical Center. He was born on March 17, 1945 in Lake Village, Arkansas to the late Ellis and Myra Fowler Payne.
Bro. Early had a natural smile and a winning personality. He was a gifted musician and could play several instruments. He was a talented song leader and was the former Pastor at Grace Freewill Baptist Church in McGehee, AR. Bro Early was devoted to Bible study and was a member of Halley Baptist Church. He preached at Dermott Nursing Home for 11 years. Bro. Early formally worked for Thermo Gas of Lake Village, Cargill Pillsbury Grain Elevators and was also the manager for P&W Concrete Company in McGehee for 17 years, until his health forced him into retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert, Faburn, L.D., Lamar and Robert Payne; sisters, Maxine Evins, Loreada Virden and Doris Matthews.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Paulette Waldrup Payne; brothers, Norman Payne of Little Rock, AR and Millard Payne of North Little Rock, AR and his chocolate lab “Cocoa”.
Visitation will be 10-10:45 am Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR. Graveside service will follow at 11 am at Halley Cemetery with Bro. Philip Payne officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Homecare Inc. , 990 Hwy 425 North, Monticello, AR 71655.
