Obituary for Elberta Hill Forrest

Elberta Hill Forrest, 98 of McGehee, AR, peacefully passed away and went to be with her Lord on May 28, 2021. She was born on December 19, 1922 in the hill country near Rector, AR to the late Roy and Hattie Hill.

She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Howard Forrest. Elberta is also survived by her daughter Kaye Keady and by her daughter Judy Box and her husband David Box. She was well loved by her 4 grandsons, Richard Keady of Montgomery, TX, Robert Keady and his wife Wendy of Pollock, LA, Forrest Box and his wife Erica of McGehee, AR, and Jacob Box and his wife Britney, also of McGehee, AR. She was blessed with 6 great grandsons, Connor, Aiden, and Liam Keady of Pollock, LA, and Noah, Beau, and Brody Box of McGehee, AR and one great granddaughter Leigh Henri Box also of McGehee. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Martine Hill and Dorothy Wells, and is survived by one brother Hardin Hill, all of Greenway, AR. She will be sorely missed by her extended family and many friends who usually called her “Shortie”.

Elberta was always busy. She worked part time at several retail clothing stores. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes as well as those of her daughters. Every grandson got an afghan she had crocheted in his favorite colors. She loved to cook and also to can and preserve all the produce generated by her husband’s bountiful garden. During the winter, she liked to crochet or do other needlework and read romance novels, clean ones of course.

She was a dedicated Christian and attended every service. She has been a member of the McGehee Church of Christ for over 50 years. Her family is at peace knowing she is now with the God she loved so much.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, May 29 at McArthur Cemetery with her son-in-law David Box presiding. Memorials may be sent to Children’s Homes, Inc, 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, AR 72450 or to your favorite charity.
