James Wesley Thorne, Jr. 91, of Dermott, AR passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021. He was born in Guy, Arkansas on November 14, 1929 to the late James Wesley Thorne, Sr. and Vera Tanner Thorne. In his early years, James worked as a telegram operator for Perry Drug. He served in the United States Army. James worked for Western Auto for 40 years. He served as a Deputy Sheriff and a Reserve Deputy Sheriff until 2012. James was involved with the American Legion for over 60 years. He loved to hunt and fish. James always loved to pass out nutty buddies and dum dum suckers to all the kids.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Averett Thorne; daughter, Davie Hutchinson; son, Jackie Thorne, Sr.; brother, Baby Thorne and sister, Barbara M. Shelton. Survivors include his sons, Daniel (Rebecca) Thorne of Dermott, AR and Jackie (Amy) Thorne, Jr of Tonopah, AZ; sister, Margaret Averett of Dermot, AR; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren and kitchen ditch.
Visitation will be held at 1:00pm-3:00pm Sunday, June 20, 2021 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Monday, June 21, 2021 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service Chapel in McGehee, AR with Rev. Bobby Franklin and Rev. Jody Gannaway officiating. Burial will be held at Collins Cemetery in Collins, AR.
