Obituary for Willard James McCullough, Sr.

Willard James McCullough, Sr., age 87, won his battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Willard was the son of Christopher Michael “Mike” and Josephine Annice “Jo” Shelton McCullough of Ross Van Ness community and lived his entire life in Chicot County, Arkansas.
A 1953 graduate of Eudora High School, Willard took an active roll in the campus restoration when fires destroyed EHS in 1973. Mr. McCullough served honorably 15 years in the 216th Medical, Army Reserves in Lake Village, Arkansas. He was a member of the American Legion. He also served as Moose Lodge Governor in Lake Providence, LA, and earned the Legion of the Moose.
Mr. McCullough was member of New Hope Baptist and retold the Boeuf River baptism of his youth. Willard leaves a heritage of hard work and adaptability as a lifelong farmer and cattleman. His great pleasures were hunting, fishing and cooking. Will frequently provided the noon meal at Eudora Baptist Wednesday Prayer Meeting. His fig preserves won multiple championship ribbons at the Chicot County and Arkansas Fairs. He appreciated the title “Mr. Winchester” earned for his sharp shooting skills at Harwood Island Hunting Club.
Willard McCullough was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Max Roy, Sr. brother-in-law Frank Pitts and his grandparents Noel and Rosalia Shelton and George and Alberteen McCullough, an infant daughter Karen and son Kenneth. Survivors include his devoted wife Terri McCullough, children Willard McCullough Jr., Kathy McCullough, Amy Jones, Bethany Sullivan and special nephew Max Roy McCullough, Jr. Other survivors include sister, Frances Pitts, and multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Eudora Baptist Church from 10 to 11 AM Monday, October 4, 2021. A celebration of life service will follow at 11:30 AM at Mt. Carmel Cemetery Pavilion. Pastors Kenny Culpepper and Ron Ritter will lead the service. Mr. McCullough will be laid to rest beside his daughter Karen. Pall bearers will be Max Roy McCullough, Jr., Aiden McCullough, Mike Pitts, Bryan Whittington, Jacob Rankin and Jeramy Dalton. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his nephew Mike Hillman and the Eudora Baptist Men’s Sunday School Class Stephen Tisdale, Tom Marshall and Marvin Tackett.
