Obituary for Bonnie Jewel Christmas

Our community lost a pillar when Mrs. Bonnie Christmas stepped into her heavenly home to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The time for which she had longed since the passing of the light of her life, Chip, and her husband, Pellham, occurred on what would have been Chip’s 61st birthday, March 3, 2022.
Born Bonnie Jewel Morrison on July 27, 1929, Mrs. Christmas was the only child of Roy and Vera McKenzie Morrison. Her education led to a long and fulfilling career as a school teacher in Pine Bluff, Dumas and Dermott.
In 1970, Mrs. Christmas and her family proudly established and opened the doors of Bellaire Academy. During the following eleven years, the school, which began as a three-room building, grew into an academic and sports campus surrounding Chip’s Fieldhouse, a memorial building that touched all who entered. Both before and after Chip’s death, Mrs. Christmas served in countless roles as teacher, administrator, counselor and choir director for the “Singing Warriors for Christ”.
Mrs. Christmas loved the Dermott Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years. She faithfully served in numerous capacities but her favorite was that of Sunday School teacher. She lived by her favorite Bible verse, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
In addition to her parents, husband and son, Mrs. Christmas was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Morrison, Jr. She is survived by a brother-in-law, Steve Christmas (Alice) and a sister-in-law Lois Christmas, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and Warriors.
Bellaire, Bellaire, we salute thee
And through the years we’ll stay
Ever faithful to the memories
We’re making here today.
May we always stand together For this, our hope shall be
That each shall be a better person
For having come this way.
Warriors, Warriors, how we love you
In your white and blue
Win or lose, we’ll always shout it
Bellaire, we love you!

Visitation will be held at 1:00-2:00pm Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR. Graveside service will follow at 2:30pm at Dermott Cemetery.
