Obituary for Carolyn Howell Poe Norvell

Carolyn Howell Poe Norvell of Rogers, Arkansas passed away March 25, 2022 in Springdale, Arkansas at Edgewood Health and Rehab. She was born Sept 23, 1948 in Dermott, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her father, D.W. Howell and her mother, Helen Landers Howell; brothers, Larry Howell and Robert Howell.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Norvell of Rogers; stepson, Victor and wife, Rhonda Norvell of Bentonville; stepdaughter, Kathryn Ann Norvell and step-granddaughter, Chelsea Hand both of Bella Vista; sister-in-law, Kay Howell of Denham Springs, LA; niece, Robin Howell Barnett and husband, Lee of Crossett; nephew, Robert Louis Howell and wife, Tammy of Dumas; nephews, Kevin Howell and wife, Heather and Scott Howell and wife, Lauren all of Denham Springs, La; best friends for over 50 years, Mary Jane and Glen Gilbert of Monticello and a small close knit group of girlfriends called "The Girls of Summer."

After graduating high school early from Desha Central, she attended UCA and later graduated from UAM with a degree in Physical Education and Social Studies. She obtained her Master’s degree in Secondary Administration, Secondary School Principalship, and Specialist in Educational Administration.

Carolyn was the basketball coach and taught social studies in Wilmot. She was a teacher, girls’ basketball coach and cheerleader sponsor at Hamburg High School. Carolyn was an Assistant Principal/Principal at Crossett School District. She also was the Principal at Russellville Middle School and Assistant Principal at Rogers High School. Carolyn also worked for her brother in Denham Springs, Louisiana as his secretary at River City Towing and River City Marine.

Carolyn was an avid Santa Claus collector. Possessing over 1,000 Santa’s and was known for her Christmas open house. She collected coins, enjoyed sewing and crafts of many kinds. She loved playing cards, gardening, traveling, and was an avid Arkansas Razorbacks fan.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 1:00pm and a memorial service will follow at 2:00pm at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rogers Public Education Foundation, P.O. Box 1021, Rogers, AR 72757.
