Obituary for Eunice Virginia Crosby (Barley)

Eunice Virginia Barley Crosby, 95, passed peacefully from this life to her heavenly one on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at her home in Columbia, SC, surrounded by her family. She was born August 9, 1927, in Chicot, Arkansas, to the late Daniel Arl Barley and Zola Eunice Castle Barley. She resided in Eudora, Arkansas, throughout her childhood and most of her adult life, before moving to Columbia, SC, with her daughter Connie 25 years ago. However, her heart was always in Arkansas, and she always considered Eudora “home.”
Eunice is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Betty Barley Boyd (Charles), Eula Marie Barley Norrell (John); Helen Louise Barley Graves “LuLu;” and her brothers, James Edward Barley (Martha), and Daniel Arl Barley, Jr. “Buddy” and her son-in-law Gale E. Brewer. She graduated from Eudora High School and worked for nearly 30 years as a cashier at A&P Grocery in Greenville, MS. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Eudora, and later a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. Eunice loved birds and enjoyed watching and feeding them. Her favorite pastime was reading, especially her Bible, and needlepoint. She possessed a green thumb and loved gardening and growing flowers and vegetables.
She was known for her southern cooking and everyone had their “favorite.” Particular favorites were waffles and maple syrup, pineapple biscuits, coconut or chocolate cakes, and vegetable soup and cornbread. It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving or Christmas without her holiday candies, the family recipe coffee cake, or her delicious cornbread dressing. She seldom cooked using a recipe, and others seemed unable to duplicate her dishes. Many Sundays after church were spent around the kitchen table eating and fellowshipping with pastors, friends and family.
Eunice lived a godly life and had a true servant’s heart. She was a devoted daughter, sister and mother to her three children. She left a legacy of Christian love, which continues down through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Albert Crosby (Linda), Carol Crosby Brewer, and Connie Crosby; her grandchildren, Brock Brewer (Mandy), Britt Brewer (Jennifer), Laura Beth Brewer Dietrich (Blake), Lauren Crosby Greene; her great grandchildren, Lexie, Lofton, Brennan, Kennedy, Beckett, Savannah, Tyner, Blaiz, Laura Caroline, Brewer, Blakely, Baylor, Brittany, Shea, Aidan; and great, great grandchild, Sophia; sister-in-law Elizabeth Greer Barley and brother-in-law Henry Graves; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church in Eudora, AR, with a Celebration of Life Service following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Eudora.
