Obituary for David Paul McCarthy

David Paul McCarthy of McGehee AR died October 19, 2022 at UAMS Hospital in Little Rock, AR. He was born May 5, 1953 in Wadena, MN.
David moved from Minnesota to Louisiana as a teen, after high school he joined the Navy, once he completed that he married and started his family. In his earlier years he worked on shrimp boats off the coast of Texas. He later moved back to Louisiana and became a Diesel mechanic. He worked several years for Scott Tractor Company which eventually led him to McGehee in 1996. He enjoyed building and working on race cars for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Frederic Wendt and Teresa Mitzi Liebold Danley, his Father and Mother in law Laurence and Barbara Jones and nephew Jared Phillips. He is survived by his children Nicholas and Suzanna Jones of McGehee, David and Daniel McCarthy of Monroe, LA and Ashley McCarthy of Gatlinburg, TN 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, his brother Fred Wendt of Baton Rouge, LA his sister Debbie Cruz of Houston, TX brother in laws, sister in laws, nieces and nephews and Torrie Sirmon of McGehee, AR.
Superdave was a one of a kind man with a youthful spirit. He devoted his last years to his children and their friends keeping their vehicle running, wheels intact, and fixing what Nich and Suzanna “messed up”. He spent a lot of Sundays showing them how to meticulously clean a vehicle but on Mondays he would typically be cleaning theirs for them and making sure their gas was over half full or you better believe that “fuel pump is gonna go bad.” If you’re a 90’s child in McGehee I bet he did this for you too. He loved their friends as much as them. Those who knew him will have their own stories to tell and I’m sure it includes a belly laugh. He will be missed by all who loved him.
Visitation will be held at 6:00-8:00pm Friday, October 21, 2022 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR. Graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove, LA with Rev. Ronnie Garrett officiating.
