Obituary for John "Big John" Berle McGaha, Sr.
John “Big John” Berle McGaha, Sr., 87, of McGehee, Arkansas passed away December 21, 2022. He was born August 16, 1935 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late John B. McGaha and Lula Harrison McGaha. In his younger years, he was active in the McGehee Lions Club, Jaycees, and Delta Country Club Board of Directors and Men’s Golf Association holding various offices during his years of service. Big John was also a founding member of Copperhead Hunting Club. He was Sales Manager at Lucky Chevrolet in McGehee and retired this past summer after 56 years of employment.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce McGaha, ten siblings and one great grandchild. Survivors include his wife, Reecia Carr McGaha; son, John (Theresa) McGaha, IV of McGehee, AR; daughter, Julie (Bill) Woods of Rudy, AR; brother, Charles McGaha of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Clay Lloyd, Kyle Lloyd, Shelby Apple and Alex McGaha; 6 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held at 4:00-6:00pm Friday, December 23, 2022 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, December 24, 2022 at the funeral home with Rev. Jonathan Williams and Rev. Elizabeth Williams officiating. Burial will be at Lake Village Cemetery. Pallbearers are Alex McGaha, Clay Lloyd, Kyle Lloyd, Brian Apple, Bob Lucky and Jimbo Morphis. Honorary pallbearers are members of Copperhead Hunting Club and Delta Country Club Men’s Golf Association. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McGehee Men’s Club, P.O. Box 44, McGehee, AR 71654 or a charity of your choice.
